Gaita
Medieval Music
Gaïta is a group based in Edinburgh dedicated to Medieval Music. They are performers of medieval music and early dance, produce books of medieval music and design and build medievalinstruments.
Gaita play music of the 12th-15th centuries from all over Europe and especially Scotland, France, Spain and Italy. Instruments played include a number of the medieval 'bas' (soft) instruments - fiddles, harps, early lutes - and also the instruments of the early 'Alta' (loud) band - shawms, bagpipes, percussion. The variety of instruments means that Gaita can provide music for many different situations or events - medieval weddings, medieval fairs, re-enactment events, and of course concerts. Programmes can be tailored to particular themes.
Gaita can even organise a 'Medieval Ceilidh' specialising in the dances from the recently discovered Gresley Manuscript from England c.1500 - perfect for 15th century re-enactment groups.
