Iain Hood is an experienced harpist with over seventeen years experience playing music for a wide range of events. His repertoire covers everything from classical favourites
to mystical Celtic
and juicy jazz
standards. Iain is happy to play film favourites
or popular modern music
to suit your evening.
Iain is a multi-talented musician playing both the concert harp
and Celtic harp (clarsach). For larger events, Iain can team up with other musicians such as flute, violin
and cello
to create an amazing range of music that will please everyone.
Iain studied at the Royal College of Music in London and has been the resident harpist at the 5 star Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh for the last 17 years. Iain plays two types of harp: the celtic harp (clarsach) and the concert harp. This lets him play a wide range of music including music for hymns or songs.
Iain can also offer the Silverstrings flute and harp duo which he and flautist Sue Hughes set up 10 years ago. They can also extend their ensemble to a trio or quartet with violin or flute and cello. This is particularly suited for larger events and covers the same wide range of styles. For that Celtic touch they use flute and celtic harp, and for more traditional classical melodies or modern love songs use flute and concert harp.
