Marie-Louise Napier
Harpist and Singer
Marie-Louise Napier B. Mus. is a singer and harper from Strathspey, whose repertoire includes Scottish, Irish and English folk songs and melodies. In recent years she has performed at a wide variety of venues from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to local ceilidhs. She has worked for the Council for Music in Hospitals, played at Folk Festivals, musical evenings in Castles and Country Houses and other private functions.

Marie was born in Grantown-on-Spey in the Scottish Highlands. Not only do her forebears include the famous fiddle-playing family of Cummings, but also on her Grandfather's side she is descended from the Gaelic hymn-write, the Rev. Peter Grant of Ballantua.
Educated in the Highlands and graduated B. Mus. from Glasgow University. She taught music in Glasgow's East End before joining the Chorus of Scottish Opera where she later became a member of their Opera for Youth Team, promoting an interest in Opera among young people.
Marie-Louise has always had an interest in the Clarsach (Scottish Harp) and took it up on her return to Strathspey. She works for the Council of Music in Hospitals, plays for weddings and private functions, and performs throughout the Highlands in castle, village halls and theatre. She was a founding member of the committee who organised Feis Spe, a lively tuition-based festival to encourage an interest in traditional music amongst young people in Strathspey.
With her younger sister Kirsteen, she has formed a duo called No Spring Chickens and they perform regularly on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where they receive 5-star reviews for their programmes of words and music, often with a Celtic theme.
Marie has released to albums to date, "Skippin' Barfit" with musical guests and "Best and Dearest", a selection of well-loved songs to her own accompaniment on the Highland Harp.
Marie-Louise has just graduated from the Gaelic College on Skye with a B.A. in Language and Culture and looks forward to combining her Gaelic and musical skills.
