Album Reviews

'Fear not. While this is a CD of a Ceilidh band, the tunes are kept sensibly short, the pace is varied, the instrumentation shows imagination and the songs are really well done. The result is a curiously engaging album - short by CD standards but that's part of its charm. The band gives a cleaner sound than is often the case with larger ceilidh ensembles, and achieves a lot of rhythm without needing a drummer. The material is mainly Scottish, as befits a band from the Western Isles and Glasgow, with splashes of Irish, Cape Breton and Toronto. Standout track for this listener is a local song for the band - 'Loch Lomond', done in a way that brings out what the song is about. Well worth a listen, especially for ceilidh bands thinking of making an album and wanting to know how it should be done!' .... Bho SPINS

'The crossover between Scottish dance, ceilidh and folk music has, at last, been tastefully achieved.' .... Robbie Shepherd, BBC Radio Scotland

'The JCB seem a cheery lot, their album of the same name is certainly an eponymous amalgam of jigs, reels and hornpipes, plus songs from the jaunty to the classic 'Loch Lomond' which will please a lot of people. This is one JCB people will really dig.' .... Alasdair McLean, Scots Magazine

Testimonials

'Simply the best, would sum up our feelings about the band. As they are a West Coast band, we knew the music was idea for us but the fact that they incorporated Irish music into the mix made it special to us and if anybody wants that kind of ceilidh for a wedding, then you can't go wrong with the mix of Irish and Scottish, traditional, lively, easy to dance to and of course, sing along with as well. Absolutely fantastic!'

.... Lesley & Damien Whearty, 2010

'The band were great and all our guests enjoyed the ceilidh despite the face that most had never been to a ceilidh before. The band lived up to our expectations.'

.... Victoria & Iain McConnachie, 2010

'JCB's music was exactly the lively, traditional ceilidh music we were after for a wedding with lots of guests from abroad. The calling was easy to follow and it was pretty easy to get people on the dance floor.'

.... Julie & Mark Hutchison, October 2009

'Perfect. They read the situation well, were flexible and fitted the setting perfectly. A right good shindig was had by all!'

.... Rhona and Michael Timar

'JCB exceeded all our expectations and helped make our wedding day truly memorable. We had a mix of people at our wedding - some had never attended a Ceilidh before, but JCB got them all up dancing. Everyone had a fantastic time and everyone commented on how good they were. A huge thank you to Ross and the rest of the band.'
